Further influences on the work of Susana Maxelon are the work of Anselm Keifer, icons, and textile art. Revealed in the works are themes of creation, suffering, communion, transformation and the quantum unity of all things. Exploiting changing light, textured surfaces and the conceptual use of materials they suggest the Spirit veiled in matter and evoke a sense of the sacred and the meditative - calling for a response from several of the senses. |

5 wounds
Description: Based on the 5 Wounds which form Christ's coat of arms and the concepts of the Lamb of God/Heart of the Lamb, the five focal areas can be viewed subjectively as wounds/orifices/as jewel-like/flower-like, in each case as life breaking through a sterile white surface. At another level the piece can be read as the wound to painting as an art form, a wound that breaks the surface yet is transforming

Description: The work explores primal matter from a perspective of embodiedness/Incarnation using metaphors of the rubedo (reddening) stage in alchemy and the Christrian mystical concept of the Heart of the Lamb.
